Offering 6: Zero Waste Event Planning

  • Working with the local facility to understand the real picture of what happens to the waste and identify correct separation / handling practices
  • Working in coordination with the waste hauler to set up appropriate collection systems, ensuring adequate capacity, and obtaining any available bins for garbage, recycling and composting (if available)
  • Working with event planners using our customized Zero Waste Event Checklist to identify purchasing options, needed eco-stations, and education and outreach material / marketing before the event
  • Serving as event planner – to purchase environmentally conscious products, recycled-content products, and reusable items when available, and coordinate all of the waste on the day of the event
  • Providing volunteers to work each eco-station (a vital piece to the puzzle for both educating attendees and properly separating waste at the source)
  • Other general day-of event assistance managing waste, educating event attendees, and assisting with source separation at the bin

Experience:

  • Created the Town of Corte Madera Zero Waste Checklist for events held in City facilities
  • Assistance coordinating the waste at the 2012 and 2013 California Worldfest in Grassvalley, CA
  • Served as a waste sorter at the 2019 VegFest in Van Nuyz, CA
  • Served as a waste sorter at the 2010 and 2011 Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in Booneville, CA
  • Formed the Green Events Consulting Team and assisted in the event planning of over a dozen events and attendance as a waste sorter at events at California State University, Chico in 2011
